Masan is adapted from a famous play of the same name written by Gopal Prasad Rimal. It is based on the conceptions of 1940s Nepali society and family life. Portraying the urban environment, costume and make up of 60 years ago was technically challenging for the cast and crew. Masan is the first DSLR Nepali film to be shot using a 5D-Mark 2 camera.
Helen (Keki Adhikari) is unable to conceive a child with her husband Krishna Baje (Raj Ballav Koirala). To have a child in the household, Helen wants Krishna Baje to take a second wife (Nita Dhungana). After the second wife arrives, there is a conflict between the two wives.
